Yolanda Morales, born in Chiapas, Mexico, is a choreographer, dancer and performer. She trained in dance in Mexico and completed a Master's degree in Performance Studies in Hamburg. Her projects in Hamburg have been created with K3, Lichthof Theater and MARKK - Museum am Rothenbaum, among others. In her choreographic works, she deals with imaginative bodies in utopian and dystopian spaces that are closely interwoven with current political and social realities. Reconstructing, recontextualizing and reinterpreting movement as a form of socio-political action is important to her.
Her productions have been invited both in Germany and internationally, including to the HundertPro Festival at the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, OUTNOW! Bremen, EPICENTRO in Oaxaca (Mexico), IAPAR Festival in India and Hauptsache Frei in Hamburg, Hoch X in Munich and currently at Fringify - Independent Arts Festival Hamburg. After “2666” (2021) and “Horses” (2023), “The Garden”, a further development of her last production, is the third production that Yolanda Morales has shown at Schwankhalle, Bremen. Yolanda Morales is currently part of the artistic network program Freischwimmen 23/24.
Morales was selected as one of the choreographers in residence at K3 Tanzplan Hamburg for the 23/24 season and premiered her current production “I want to be a Swamp” on March 24. With her latest production “The Garden of falling Sands”, she and her team have been invited to one of the most important festivals for contemporary dance and performance in Germany, Tanzplattform Deutschland 2024. Her next production “The Sun is burning” will be shown at Kampnagel in summer 25. Morales has been invited as a choreographer for the Dance Well project, in which a dance piece with people with and without Parkinson's will be shown at Kampnagel in early 2025 in a co-production with K3. She is currently teaching as a guest choreographer at the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg CDSH and has a residency at LA NAVE - Centro Coreográfico in Santiago de Chile this fall.
